Public Health & Wellbeing

Empowering Healthier Communities

At BRIGHT Tanzania, we believe that good health is a foundation for human development. Our Public Health & Wellbeing program empowers communities with knowledge, services, and tools to make informed health decisions and access quality care—especially for youth, women, and marginalized groups.

Through a community-led, evidence-based approach, we address critical public health challenges including sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child care, disease prevention, and mental wellness.

Key Interventions

1. Routine Immunization & HPV Advocacy

  • We support government efforts to increase HPV vaccine uptake among adolescent girls, especially in high-risk regions such as Kinondoni, Shinyanga, and Tabora.

  • In 2024, BRIGHT participated in a nationwide HPV campaign reaching over 5 million girls aged 9–14.

  • Our work includes school-based programs, parental sensitization, and combating misinformation in communities.

2. Maternal and Child Health

  • We promote safe motherhood through antenatal care education, nutrition awareness, and community outreach.

  • Our focus is on improving health outcomes for mothers and children in underserved communities.

3. Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)

  • We provide youth-friendly education on SRH, including menstrual hygiene, contraception, and STI prevention.

  • Programs are designed to challenge taboos, empower adolescents—especially girls—and reduce school dropouts due to early pregnancies.

4. HIV/AIDS & TB Prevention

  • BRIGHT conducts community-based testing, education, and stigma reduction campaigns.

  • We work to improve access to services and increase awareness about prevention and treatment.

5. Mental Health & Psychosocial Support

  • We offer support and referrals for youth, GBV survivors, and others in emotional distress.

  • Community volunteers are trained in basic counseling and trauma-informed care to offer local-level support networks.

Our Impact in Numbers

  • Over 500 girls supported to access sexual and reproductive health services and HPV vaccines

  • Integrated adolescent health services introduced in schools and communities

  • Community education forums conducted across multiple regions to increase vaccine acceptance and SRH awareness

Focus on High-Risk Areas

We prioritize regions with high teenage pregnancy and school dropout rates, including:

  • Kinondoni (Dar es Salaam)
